Your icon is the first thing people see in the Play Store and the thing they tap every day. AI image tools can help you make a good one quickly, as long as you guide them toward what works at small sizes.
What makes an icon work
- One idea. A single symbol or a short word. Not a scene.
- Strong contrast. It has to read on light and dark wallpapers.
- Few details. At 48 pixels, fine lines and small text disappear.
- Bold color. Two colors are often enough.
Prompting for icons
Image models love detail, so you have to ask for simplicity. Something like:
A flat app icon for a water reminder app. One simple water drop symbol, bold and centered, white on a solid teal background. No text, no gradients, no shadows, no border. Square, high contrast.
Generate several and pick the one that still reads when you shrink it to the size of a fingernail. Squint test: if you squint and cannot tell what it is, simplify.
Putting it in your app
In Free HTML to APK, tap the icon in the first wizard step, pick your image, then crop, zoom or rotate it. Android launchers cut icons into circles, squircles and rounded squares, so keep the important part inside the dotted circle in the cropper. The app creates the adaptive icon layers for you.
Store graphics
Google Play asks for:
- A 512 × 512 icon for the listing.
- A 1024 × 500 feature graphic.
- At least two phone screenshots.
Use AI for the feature graphic background if you like, then add your app name in a simple font yourself. AI text in images is often misspelled. For screenshots, use real screens from your app. Fake or misleading screenshots break Play's policies.
Stay clear of trouble
Do not ask for icons "in the style of" famous brands or include their logos. Look similar to a big app and you risk an impersonation rejection. Original and simple wins.
